The filly had bloodlines of gold, being out of the Hall Of Fame racer turned broodmare Little Miss Innocent and by the grade one stallion, Warlock. She had graced grade four as a two year old, and was now a Grade Three racer. Her next goal was Grade Two, and she definitely had the talent to make it. This year, she had three wins to her name and two of those wins had seen her racing against the grade one sprinting superstar, Pegasus Wings. A bright star indeed, and she had shone brighter. She could continue to shine brighter, also.
The flashy black filly was an odd one. She hated other equines, and could be rather unpredictable. If you caught her on a bad day, you could guarantee it would be a painful encounter as she was known for violent outbursts. Generally, however, she was a calm enough mare. As long as you didn't take her near other horses, you tended to be fine. The problem, of course, was that you couldn't always guarantee her mood and on race day you definitely had to take her near other equines. The danger passed once she was in the gates, but she was definitely not fun until that point.
Tanya had developed a strong bond with the filly. She spent hours with the sprinter, and she had come to know her well. In the months they had worked together, Tanya had found herself infatuated with the thoroughbred. There was something about Bella... Something that screamed that she was going to be a star. Which was why she was disappointed with the outcome of the Tick Tock Sprint. It was the first time they had placed outside of the top three, and it stung. But still, the three year old was a strong racer and they could not allow one bad result to get in their way. They just needed a workout, and to move on to the next race. There was no point in worrying over what was quite possibly an off day against strong competition.
The filly's dark eyes glinted as she was led into the box. Her head held high, she showed a deal of outward confidence. There were no other horses, just her and the track. Tanya, mounted on her back, also seemed confident. This was nothing they had not handled before, and they were strong enough to succeed. Five furlongs over the dirt, against horses of their own grade and below. There was a strong possibility that this would go well for them, if they worked hard and put their minds to it. But they would be going up against Seraphim, and that was definitely not something to get cocky about. That filly was a strong racer, and they would have a battle on trying to beat her.
As soon as the gates opened they were out onto the track. Bella was a front runner, and a strong one. She broke quick and clean, she established herself a position at the front of the group and she stayed there. She didn't do the frenzied speed thing, though. She reserves her stamina, it was one of thee things that made Bella herself. Instead of being the frenzied front runner her style showed thought and preparation.
As such, their pace was not high. It was not slow, but it was not fast. It was a comfortable speed, one where the ground still moved beneath them at a good pace and yet where at the end of the race they would still have something to give. After all, burning out in the home stretch never was a good thing.
